Since volunteering for Habitat for Humanity in high school, Andrew Holton has been drawn to the intersection of community development, economic development, and local government. After college, he worked for a private foundation and traveled across the state of North Carolina researching, writing, and developing expertise in public-private partnerships.
After law school, Andrew returned to NC and focused on public policy and public finance, first at UNC-Chapel Hill and eventually with the State Treasurer’s Office. He developed a reputation for being willing to lead new projects, oftentimes leveraging his prior experience in new fields. That curiosity resulted in a trove of meaningful opportunities, from expanding the State Health Plan for employees to establishing a state-oriented venture capital fund. Andrew’s ability to synthesize and communicate processes now helps him navigate the complexities of real estate development and finance.
To Andrew, a core strength of LMG is its ability to amplify a local government’s vision: “If they don’t know what they want, we can help them navigate the competing public priorities.” The key to LMG’s approach is building trust through transparency and creative problem-solving. As Andrew puts it, “if we show what things cost and what the risk analysis says upfront, that lays the foundation for long-term relationships with communities.” He adds that with public-private partnerships, “there are lots of tools and ways to be creative. And we pride ourselves in being pretty creative.”
When pressed, he reveals he’s a rock climber, a supporter of the arts (particularly dance), and an enthusiastic student of his kids’ interests.
